An adjective is a word that is used to describe a noun or pronoun. For example, an adjective describing a noun can be used in the following way: The boy jumped on the bouncy bed. In this sentence, ‘boy‘ is the subject, ‘jumped‘ is the verb, 'bouncy' is the adjective, and ‘bed‘ is the object. The pattern of this sentence is subject + verb + adjective + object Another way that we can use an adjective is to describe a pronoun. For example, an adjective describing a pronoun can be used in the following way: They were handsome. The pattern of this sentence is subject pronoun + verb + adjective If you have more than one adjective in a sentence, you can use the mnemonic below to help you remember the correct order. Please note that this is not a rule per say as the order of adjectives can change for emphasis reasons. OSASCOMP OPINION / SIZE / AGE / SHAPE / COLOUR / ORIGIN / MATERIAL / PURPOSE To help you remember OSASCOMP you have to make up your own sentence using the letters. Here is an example sentence: Oliver sells apples, scorpions, cookies, octopuses, muppets, and, pirates. For more great grammar content, check out this post on real and unreal conditionals.
